Last Saturday night,
there was a lot of scary stuff. On
Halloween night there were a lot of really odd and some pretty disturbing
characters walking around on our streets.
While I realize Halloween was, mostly, a community sanctioned good time,
it got me to thinking about some of the real scary stuff that happens in our
communities. The violence, injustice and
oppression that can pop up in our neighbors is not innocent fun and should not
be encouraged.
I find it interesting
that the restoration of the Jewish nation thousands of years ago was closely
affiliated with avoiding the dangerous living that seems to have played an
influence in the exile of God’s chosen people.
The Lord promised, “For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if
you truly practice justice between a man and his neighbor, if you do not
oppress the alien, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in
this place, nor walk after other gods to your own ruin, then I will let you
dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.”
(Jeremiah 7:5-7). While I am not
convinced that 21st Century America is the rebirth of God’s favored
nation, I do think that living the way we should and treating one another with
the respect they deserve will help us be better people and enjoy a much more
productive future.
I hope you enjoyed Halloween, but I am thankful it is
over. Hopefully, that will be enough
scary stuff to last us for a while and we can focus on displaying love for our
fellowman.
Think About It!
