In his most recent book, Simon Sinek discusses what he calls “The Infinite Game”. Basically, he challenges his readers to search for a higher calling by approaching life (and business) with a mind toward continual advancement, not just wins and losses. If we are going to be truly successful, we need to be a part of an ongoing journey that elevates beyond tangible (finite) measurements. As a part of his discussion, he differentiates between pursuing being the “best” and being “better”. Even if we achieve becoming the “best” at something (which is as much arbitrary as it is unlikely) being the best is not a permanent state. To be successful, we can’t stop at being the best, we must keep moving forward and upward.
