What happens when religion meets social adjustment? Typically, when the church comes face to face with a changing society, it is religion that tends to give in. To remain “contemporary” we tend to give in and allow society to morph it into what it wants us to be. Unfortunately, that isn’t good for either one of us. By giving into revised social demands, religion loses its integrity. By overpowering religion, society tends to veer further and further away from where it should be. If society was better than religion, this might be okay; but all too often, that isn’t the case. While we face these challenges in the 21 st Century, we aren’t the first to face or the first to be warned about it.
