When I was growing up, this time of year honored the explorer, Christopher Columbus.   Many of us were raised on the tales of his quests for new lands in the last part of the 15 th Century.   We could remember that in 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.   I am not sure what happened to the Italian explorer who made a name for himself and the Spanish crown – but it doesn’t appear he is as popular as he used to be.   No matter what happened to Columbus, I am still intrigued by those who go out in quest of something beyond what they know.   They have the desire to discover and the passion to explore. Typically, when we think about discoverers, we envision the people whose quests are for the physical world, but there is another type of explorers – those who try to learn more.   Their maps are the books they read, and their conquests are the thoughts they develop.   They believe there is more to their world than what they already know, so they plow new ...
