What is a hero? I grew up in a time when a hero was defined as someone who did something super – something above and beyond the expected. In my mind, this meant someone who could leap tall buildings in a single bound. Yet, the older I get the more I realize that heroes are those who just make us feel better about ourselves and feel safer in our environment. Sure, there are some people who accomplish incredible feats; but each and every day we get to witness heroes at work. They include: Police officers who are awake at 2:00 a.m. protecting us (even if they are only noticed by the bad guys who have had their evil plans diverted) Dads who work the extra shift so the family can have a second vehicle that enables the children to get the chance to experience the extra-curriculars that make life a bit more enjoyable Teachers who facilitate summer school so that our middle schoolers who are struggling with their core subjects can catch up and graduate on time with...
