One of the more popular mantras of Christians comes from the Apostle Paul, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?” (Romans 8:31). While, on one hand, this can be comforting, the truth of the matter is that people ARE against us. Christian principles are under attack in satan’s world – and sometimes that extends to individual Christians themselves. People all around us oppose godly righteousness and, not only does it often go unchecked, they are often rewarded for their belligerence. So, how can Paul say – with a good conscience – that people aren’t going to be against us? While the presence of opposition is readily seen in our world, I believe Paul is making reference to its eternal impact on us. The apostle goes on to write, “Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns?” (Romans 8:33-34).
