I was driving by a local dentist’s office the other day and noticed a very simple message – “kindness matters”. Now, while I would probably be more likely to support a dentist who lived this philosophy in their practice, it got me to thinking about what this message says throughout society. Unfortunately, we are living in a time when it feels like kindness has taken a backseat to political pragmatism and social agendas, but thankfully kindness is not dead. You see, our society is not defined by what our politicians or social advocates do, we are what we, the people, choose to be. Sure, some of the nastiness from campaigns and causes might leech into our grassroots society, but we – as friends and neighbors – still have the responsibility and opportunity to choose who we want to be.
