I was an impressionable youngster during the early part of the 1970s and, needless to say, was an interesting time in the history of the United States. As a nation, we were trying to decide who we were and what we wanted to become. We had made it through the turbulent 1960s and were being led into the 1970s by President Richard Nixon. President Nixon had won the 1972 election in a landslide, but his second term was not going too smoothly, nor would it end well for the president. The Administration was constantly under the legal, moral, social and political microscope so at one point the president made this statement, “ I made my mistakes, but in all of my years of public life, I have never profited, never profited from public service — I earned every cent. And in all of my years of public life, I have never obstructed justice.
