The other Sunday morning, as I was walking to my office, I noticed a lot of birds singing. As I walked along, I kept thinking about Jesus’ words, “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?” (Matthew 6:26-27). I am sure that Jesus spoke these words to help provide some comfort to those original readers, but at that moment, I struggled a bit. Here were all these cheery birds seemingly enjoying the day God had given them while I was preoccupied with the upcoming events of the day. Does that mean they have more faith than me? As I considered this a bit more, I began to realize that while birds are satisfied with their lives, they don’t accomplish a whole lot. They live day-to-day existences for the months they are alive...
