There are times when I wish I could just live my life in oblivion. It is tempting to become a hermit – maybe not in living without people, but living without all the struggles and burdens that come with knowledge and understanding. I am aware what Solomon said about the burden of wisdom, but I recently came across this observation, “Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge, and he who hurries his footsteps errs.” (Proverbs 19:2). Knowledge may not always be power, but ignorance more often than lot leads to ineptness. Over the last few months many of us have vowed that we are going to give up watching the news and listening to opinions. While, on the surface, this sounds wonderful but the truth is we must continue to become aware of what is going on around us and evaluating it for the impact it has on us. We probably should do better about not taking everything to heart, but we cannot be effective if we are ignorant. Let’s use restraint and wisdom in our approach
