I am sure it wouldn’t surprise anyone who knows me that – from time to time – I allow stuff to get to me. Interestingly, the things that typically get me down aren’t the major issues, it is the little stuff. I feel pretty confident navigating through the legitimate crises, but I spend way too much time “wrapped around the axle” over situations that don’t typically amount to a hill of beans! Thankfully, my wife knows me well enough realize when I am going through this and she will remind me to not let the fleas get me. She reminds me of the old adage that too often our lives aren’t spoiled by legitimate dangers, it’s the annoyances – the fleas – that produce dissatisfaction. As I think about this, I need to remember that the fleas won’t kill me, but they can make me uncomfortable – or maybe even more importantly – they can cause me to give up and abandon my duty.
