One of the most discouraging aspects of modern society is to see what appears to be a lack of interest from our young people in religion. They just don’t seem to be attending worship or joining churches in the numbers they have in the past. While it is easy to blame the secular nature of these generations, those of us who have lived our spiritual lives in front of them need to take a good look at ourselves as well. Have we been guilty of talking about “loving our neighbor” while vilely condemning anyone who doesn’t think the way we think or vote the way we vote? Have we preached a message of “eternal reward” while greedily acquiring everything we can – often at the expense of others? Have we professed “respect and unity” while critically dismissing people who don’t look or speak like us? Do we profess the “joy of spiritual” while ingesting alcohol or drugs just to get through today? Maybe the problem with our young people is that they can see better than they are willing to list
