When I was a youngster I remember my father joking with us by saying, “Don’t try to confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up.”.  Years ago, when I heard that I would snicker; however, the older I have gotten, the more this makes me shake my head.  You see, it isn’t just a joke, unfortunately to too many people it is a way of life.  We aren’t interested in learning anything new, we are content to just defend our opinions.  Continuing our belief system is often more important discovering the truth.    I would like to believe this concept is something that started with our generation, but the truth is that it has been around since the beginning of time.  The Jewish wise man Solomon observed, “A fool does not delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own mind.” (Proverbs 18:2).  In essence, those who are stuck in their ways aren’t always committed, sometimes we are just obstinate.  When we are stubborn about somet...
