Why should Christians do the right things? Well, the most obvious answer is because they are the right things to do. We are expected to make good decisions that lead to righteousness. However, I believe that there is another reason to do what is right – to prove that we are God’s people. We do His will to show our allegiance to Him. Those who watch us shouldn’t have to wonder or guess at whether or not we are faithful – it should be obvious. When the Apostle Paul wrote to the early Christians, he challenged them, “Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world …” (Philippians 2:14-15). When you go to a sporting event, it is pretty easy to determine the teams because they wear their own gear; but that is also true of the fans in the stands. We sport our teams’ colors and logos so everyone – even the opposition – knows who we support. The same is true in the moral and spiritual conflict … we need to be showing our true colors and we do that by displaying our righteousness.
Does the world know whose side we are on? We can’t just claim our allegiance by putting a sticker on our cars, we need to make sure the righteousness stands out through our lives!
Think About It!
