What is the greatest thing that God has done for us?  That’s a pretty big question, isn’t it!  When we look back on all that God has done from the creation to now, that’s an incredible list.  Yet, if there is one that tops it all, it might be defined by the Apostle Paul when he praised God by writing, “For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13-14).  God created the world in which we live and even designed us to live when, where and how we do – and that’s pretty awesome – but He went one step further.  Knowing that we would mess up His perfection, He provided forgiveness.  He saved us from the darkness of sin and determined a way by which we could be restored to a pure relationship with Him.

Let’s be willing to appreciate what God has done to give us this world and an eternal home in heaven.  However, let’s never lose sight of the fact that He found a way to give us a second chance to enjoy the gifts He gave us.  The creation is cool, but the salvation is extra special.

There are times I read some of my thoughts and I wonder if people think that I have lost touch with reality.   I am a big believer in trying to talk as much as possible about things like love, peace, hope, unity and optimism.   There are times I look back over what I wrote and I ask myself, “Am I trying to convince me or you?”.   Am I writing about these topics because I believe in them or just because I want to believe they are possible?   The other day, I came across a statement made by the Apostle Paul in one of his letters in which he wrote, “Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. Wednesday; July 16

It is hard to watch what is going on in Texas right now.  With the number of confirmed dead and scores more unaccounted for, our hearts hurt with all the pain and devastation.  In an effort to wrap our heads around something as horrific as this, we try to come to grips with what is going on.  Are we in the end times?  Is the Lord trying to teach us something?  While it is natural to try to make logical sense out of what is going on, I believe one of the comforting things we can do is understand this isn’t unusual for life on earth.  Now hear me out, if you have lost someone in this tragedy (or any tragedy), I am not trying to diminish your pain and anguish.  However, what I am trying to say is that life on earth is fraught with danger.  It doesn’t take much of a review of history to see this.  On this day in 1981, 114 people killed in the collapse of the skyway of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kansas City.  About this time of year in 1972 H...

I am not sure how I got on their list, but I am receiving regular spam calls from someone promising me some financial benefits if I were to just call them back.  My loan is ready to go – all I need to do is finish up the paperwork.  Now, I realize this is a hoax (because I haven’t applied for a loan), but I still get annoyed when they call and leave the exact same message every day.  Even though the phone numbers are different, the message is the same.  The other day I got to thinking about how annoying this is, then it dawned on me that I haven’t done anything to stop it.  I haven’t tried to block the calls; I just ignore them.  As I thought about this, I got to reflecting on life.  How many things bug us – but we don’t do anything about them?  Maybe it is a personality trait of a co-worker, a quirky nuance of our car, a bad habit we have developed in ourselves … or any number of other things.  They bug us, but we aren’t doing anything to st...
