Last week, a lot of
people from around the country were warned about an impending storm – and by
the looks of the grocery stores and the gas stations, a lot of them took it
seriously. While you can never
completely rely on weather forecasts to be accurate, a lot of us take these
predictors at their word and start stocking up on the essentials (and some
luxuries).
I am thankful that we
have good weather forecasting and that people are listening to the
prognosticators, but I am a little concerned about another forecast that is
going unheeded. The Bible warns, “But the
day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the
heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed
with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned
up.” (II Peter 3:10). We may not know –
exactly – what will happen when Jesus returns, but we have been given a warning
that it will be certain and will be intense. Are we prepared? The end has been predicted, are we ready for
the judgment that follows?
Let’s not worry more
about bread and milk as we prepare for an upcoming storm than we do about our
salvation when the Lord comes again. We
can live for a little while without staples in our homes, but we won’t be able
to last a day without the eternal Spirit of God in our hearts!
Think About It!
