Monday; November 24
The other Sunday morning,
as I was walking to my office, I noticed a lot of birds singing. As I walked along, I kept thinking about
Jesus’ words, “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor
reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by
being worried can add a single hour to his life?” (Matthew
6:26-27). I am sure that Jesus spoke
these words to help provide some comfort to those original readers, but at that
moment, I struggled a bit. Here were all
these cheery birds seemingly enjoying the day God had given them while I was
preoccupied with the upcoming events of the day. Does that mean they have more faith than
me? As I considered this a bit more, I
began to realize that while birds are satisfied with their lives, they don’t
accomplish a whole lot. They live day-to-day
existences for the months they are alive, then they become part of the cycle of
nature. Humans were designed for longer
lives and greater things. So, how can we
take comfort in Jesus’ admonition? I
think the key is learning to trust that we are going to be okay. We don’t have to do everything ourselves;
God’s got us. Let’s plan big and work to
make it happen, yet let’s not get overwhelmed.
I hope that we will see
the reminders God has placed in our world.
Let’s allow them to calm us, but let’s use the talents He has given us
to dream big and accomplish what we can to fulfill our potential.
Think About It!
