It has been said that Mark Twain observed, “God created man in His own image and man, being a gentleman, returned the favor.”.  In essence, humanity has taken it upon itself to establish ourselves as the rulers of our own kingdom.  While a point can be made that God put mankind in charge of the use of the world, He did not give us absolute control.  We are still responsible to Him for what we do.  Moses makes note of this by remarking, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’” (Genesis 1:26).  Notice that humans were not given carte blanche to rule the world as we saw fit, rather we are to be God’s earthly overseers.  He did not create humans with the capacity to usurp His role or set aside His concepts; He put inside us the ability to have an understanding of His godliness.  If we think too much of ourselves, it is because we have overridden the limits He laid out for us.

As humans, we can do a good job of being God’s caretakers, but we must take care that we don’t see ourselves as gods.  He is still the Ruler and Authority over His creation.  When we accept our place, we can make this place the best it can be.

Think About It!
