Today is one of my favorite days of the year. Today is Game 1 of the Texas Rangers Baseball season. All is right with the world now!

If you have been reading my stuff for a while, you are probably aware of how big of a baseball fan I am – especially when it comes to the Rangers. I probably am more of a Texas fan than a pure baseball fan; but there are certain things I do like about the game in and of itself. One of the great things about the MLB season is that it consists of 162 games, so it is a marathon more than a sprint. Another thing I like about the game at a professional level is that this time of year everyone is tied and everyone has an equal chance to make the playoffs and win the championship. There are no rankings, there are just empirical standings. You win and you control your destiny. However, one of my favorite things about the game is that each day begins a new opportunity. When the final out is made, that game is history – you can’t change it so you might as well learn from it and move on. With the first pitch of every new game, a new opportunity is available for success.

What would happen if we lived our lives like this? What if, when we went to bed at the end of each day we laid that day to rest and when we woke up each morning we were willing to start afresh? It’s a tough chore, but it might help us to truly live one day at a time. The Bible reminds us, “This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24). Not only is today the Lord’s creation, it is also a chance to start over – and that is a great gift to each one of us.

Think About It!
