What matters the most
to us? If we had to please one person,
who would it be?
I pose these questions
because in our answers we will find what guides our lives. If we seek to please our bosses at work, we
will live one way and if we live to please our spouse, our priorities will
probably be different. If we are want to
impress our professors or teacher we do one thing, but if our focus in on
wooing a girlfriend/boyfriend then our approach will look much different.
The reason for this
challenge to look inward is to ask another question – how serious are we about
pleasing God? Most of us have some sort
of spiritual nature, but it will only be when we commit to focusing on being
God’s true disciple that we will find a genuine spiritual purpose in life. The way to fully focusing on God is to realize
His position in our world and in our lives.
David reflected on God’s role and wrote, “The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord’s throne
is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. The Lord
tests the righteous and the wicked, and the one who loves violence His
soul hates. Upon the wicked He will rain snares; fire and
brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup. For the Lord is righteous, He loves
righteousness; the upright will behold His face.” (Psalm 11:4-11).
Do we care what God
thinks of us? If so, does it matter
where we spend our time this weekend?
Maybe as importantly, does it matter what we will be pursing next week?
Think About It!
