When I was younger, I
would hear “older” people talk about how difficult it was to age because it
seems like everything hurts. I recall
laughing it off – but as I am aging, I am realizing it is no laughing
matter. Actually, it can be kind of
funny listening to me and my contemporaries visiting because just about every
conversation centers around what is sore and where we are going to the
doctor. Yet, I have recently come to
realize that my aches and pains happen when I am sitting around not doing
anything. It hurts less to walk than to
sit. The joints that ache when I am
sedentary usually feel pretty good when I am exercising. As odd as it seems, there may be a life
lesson or two in that. Have you noticed
how tough life seems to be when we are sitting around not doing anything; but
how good we feel when we are out doing things and making a difference in the
world around us? When we are stagnant it
is easy to sit around and complain about things, so the actual solution may be to
get out of our rut and be active. I
don’t know if it alleviates the pain or if it just takes our minds off of it; but
either way, we tend to feel better.
Are we looking for a cure
for what ails us? Maybe it can’t be
found in eliminating the pain as much as it does in ending the inward focus of
identifying and complaining about what is wrong – both in us and with the world
around us.
Think About It!
