How do we perceive
difficult times? Do we lament the fact
that times are tough or do we look forward to being put in a position to
showcase the talents we have been given?
If you have ever played sports, you probably have had the thought of
being the athlete who, when the game is on the line, had to make the play. In your mind, does that scare you or does it
excite you? When time is running out and
you are the place kicker – do you want to be jogging onto the field with chance
to kick the winning field goal to be the hero or do you want to be the third
string player who knows they’ll never face the pressure of getting off of the
bench? When the last batter of the game
is up and hits a screaming liner – do you want to be the one who catches the
ball or would you rather be playing another position, happy that the game
doesn’t ride on your shoulders?
Interestingly, when it
comes to athletics, a lot of us would like the chance to compete, but when it
comes to life in general, we are happier being bystanders or commentators. Yet, what could happen if more of us took on
the excitement of the quest and looked forward to making a difference in
challenging times? Let’s prepare
ourselves to be able win the moment, so that when we get a chance to make a
difference, we will be ready – with the proper talents and the appropriate
enthusiasm.
