Several years ago we switched our primary television provider to YouTube TV.  Now, other services might provide something similar, but one thing I have noticed about YouTube TV is what they call “Now for a Moment of Zen”.  Basically, it is a break from all the other stuff on TV.  There are several of them – from puppies frolicking to insects buzzing to fires crackling.  They are only a few seconds long, but for that moment it provides an escape. As I thought about these moments, I realized that they are only showing close-ups of what they want us to see.  I don’t know the complete context for their videos, but they have done a good job of capturing that moment at that time.  Wouldn’t it be great if real life could be that way?  Imagine how much bliss we could find if we could narrow our focus to remove all the noise around us.  Come to think of it, why do we have to imagine it – why don’t we just do it?  Centuries ago, Christians were told, “Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9).  It appears that the Apostle Paul had found a way to capture the peace of God in his life and he wanted to share what was possible with others.  The key was to be able to see the good in the world and focus on it.

I don’t know that either the media or mankind is ready for a commercial product called “Moments of Spiritual Zen”, but that shouldn’t stop us from pursuing them in our own personal lives.  Let’s look for the positives in life and take the time to embrace them.
