Happy Presidents Day, 2026!  Actually, the official name at the federal level is still Washington’s Birthday, but through the years (and to streamline some holidays) many states now honor Presidents Day.  Now, while you can pick and choose which president you’d like to honor today, I will stick with first president for our quote of the day.  Even though the story of Washington chopping down the cherry tree and responding with, “I cannot tell a lie …” has pretty much been relegated to a fable, George Washington is closely associated with telling the truth.  Interestingly, I came across a quote attributed to him that advocates, “Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains to bring it to light.”.  Interestingly, we live in an era where truth is taking a terrible beating, so how can we help truth prevail?  I think there are a few ways:

Tell the truth.  Before we cast stones at anyone else’s lack of veracity, we need to make sure that we are being honest.

Demand the truth from others.  When we sluff off dishonesty, we allow lies to erode the expectation that the truth will be told.

Search out the truth.  There are a lot of claims being made out there – are we doing our due diligence in confirming what we hear?  We live in an era with ready access to objective information, let’s use it.

Years ago, a wise man observed, “Truthful lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only for a moment.” (Proverbs 12:19).  The older I get the more I realize this is not only true individually, but as a society and as a nation as well.

Are we helping truth prevail?  If not, how long can we last if we build our future on a foundation of deception?

Think About It!
