Thursday; January 1

I know, I know … there really isn’t anything significantly different between December 31 and January 1.  We make a big deal about moving from one year to the next, but in all honesty, it is more fabrication than fact.  However, since our culture honors the break in years, let’s take some time to play along with them and think about what is coming up in this new year.  The new year can be about new opportunities if we allow it.  When we turn over a new chapter in our minds as we turn the page on the calendar, we give ourselves a chance to start over – and, honestly, there is something special about that.  It may be an artificial reset, but it can be productive to give ourselves a chance to begin again.  One of the verses that strikes a chord with me is when Paul reminded believers of their spiritual renewal, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (II Corinthians 5:17).  Christianity is a chance to put our past behind us and move on toward something new and different.

Are you looking for a second chance or a new beginning in your life?  Have you felt flat after making New Year’s Resolutions after New Year’s Resolutions only to find out you don’t have the conviction to see them through?  Thankfully, when we “die” to our “old (spiritual) nature” and are reborn in Christ, we get to make lasting changes that don’t just benefit us in the upcoming year, they can lead us into a bright eternal life.

If you are looking for a fresh start, why not talk to one of your Christian friends or respond to this post.  We can’t change you, but we can walk beside you as you work with the Lord to create a new and improved you!
