Happy Thanksgiving! For a lot of us, this really is the most
wonderful time of the year. It is a time
for family, food and football. It is a
chance for some of us to go over the river and through the woods to
Grandmother’s house. (Is that enough
cliches for one paragraph?)
Seriously, I do enjoy the
Thanksgiving holiday because it represents something special. We spend so much of our time focused on how
we can get ahead that, every-once-in-a-while it does us all some good to slow
down and refocus our attention. One type
of thanksgiving is an appreciation for the people around us. Most of us are raised with the belief that we
should say “thank you” when people do something for us, but I think there is
another level – being thankful for who people are. Maybe a common phrase we should use is “thank
you for everything you do and who you are”.
While it is important to
appreciate our fellow man, at the heart of thanksgiving (the day and the
emotion) is our attitude toward God.
King David seemed to capture the concept when he challenged believers, “Enter
His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. For the Lord is good; His
lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations.”
(Psalm 100:4-5).
I hope you have a great day, but let’s all adopt a mindset that gets every day started off on the right foot. When we have an attitude of thanksgiving, every day will be worthy of celebration.
Think About It!
