We have had some extra-duty high speed hinges on some of the doors at the church building.  They were designed in a way that required extra force to open them.  I realize the purpose for high-resistance hinges, but I have to admit that I haven’t liked them and tended to avoid them whenever I could.  I would complain under my breath, but never did anything to change the force needed to open the door.  The other day someone changed the hinges on the doors.  First, let me say that that first time I opened the door, I used my usual amount of “umph” for that door and it felt like I was going to bounce it off the wall.  However, the main lesson came a bit later – I had been fussing about the situation and avoiding the door for nine years.  All I needed to do was find a solution and things would have been much better.

Is there something in our lives that is more difficult than it should be?  Are there situations or emotions that we have reluctantly learned to live with that, with a tweak or two, we could eliminate and make life easier for us?  It is natural to adapt to life as we know it, but what could happen if we make things better rather than just making adjustments?  If we are aware of something that needs to be changed, let’s do it today and stop living with the unnecessary inconvenience or stress!
