I lost my Mom several
years ago but if she were alive, today would be her 86th
birthday. As I look back at her life,
she wasn’t all that famous or important by human standards, but she did leave a
positive legacy and I would like to mention just a few things she taught me.
First, she instilled in
me the value of faith and religion. I
was very young the first time I went to church and I was expected to be there
every week after that! Christian
principles and participation were important to her, and she passed that down to
us.
Second, she reminded me
that everyone needs a cheerleader. She
was always proud of me and what I did. I
got the feeling that she thought I was the best preacher ever – or at least in
the top two. As I grow older, I realize
this wasn’t based on logic – it was pure love.
Sometimes, we need people who will help us grow and other times we just
need people who will stand beside us as we grow.
Finally, she taught me
that life could be a challenge, but we have to keep going. We had a close-knit family, but circumstances
weren’t always easy. In spite of what
happened we couldn’t give up. One of her
favorite pieces of wisdom was “This, too, shall pass”. As I have lived through my life, that’s been a
pretty handy nugget to have in my pocket.
I am thankful for what my
Mom did for me and I hope your mother has done the same for you. If so, and she is still alive, thank
her. If she isn’t still with us, make
sure you pass on the positives of her legacy to those around you.
Think About It!
