Have you noticed that people in different stages of life see things in different ways.  The older I get the more I see this being played out.  When I think back on my zest for life in the first phase of life, I realize I was filled with hope and answers.  I could see what was wrong and was apt to tell you what needed to be changed.  As I settled into life in the second phase, I found myself trying to fine-tune how things were.  We were in charge and wanted to hold on to the influence we had.  Now that I am advancing into the final stage, I tend to feel out of touch.  Things are moving quickly and often in a direction I may not appreciate.  I may be in the same body, but I am definitely a work in progress.

As I thought about this the other day, I got to thinking about what it was like back in the beginning.  I remember being frustrated at the old fuddy-duddies that were raining on my progressive parade.  So, as I head into this part of my life, I would like to be an advocate for people that are trying to make this world a better place in which to live.  With this in mind, I ask one thing of our young people – head us in the right direction.  I ask you to embrace solid concepts and complement them with a lifestyle of righteousness.  Don’t just tell us what is wrong, lead us in a life dedicated to fixing it.  When the world seemed to be speeding up on the Apostle Paul, he told his young friend Timothy, “Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.” (I Timothy 4:12).  What we are asking is that if you want to establish our future directions, set a good example for us and take us where we need to go.  We don’t need critics or prognosticators, we need leaders!

The cycle of life can be explained in so many ways, but when we work it with wisdom, we can appreciate where we have been and enhance where we are going.

Think About It!
