How do we fix our country? I am sure this has been said many times throughout the centuries and those of us who live in the United States in 2025 can join in the chorus. Folks, our nation is in a mess, and it doesn’t seem to be getting much better. Now, while this sounds pessimistic, I think there are a couple of things we can take away from today’s concerns. First, we aren’t the first generation to ever deal with this and, second, there is actually something we can do about it. Centuries ago, when the Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Rome, he observed, “Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.” (Romans 13:13-14). Sounds like a familiar problem, doesn’t it? Yet, did you notice that Paul offered a solution. The answer to any and all moral decay is a life centered in Jesus. His moral precepts and spiritual guidance can deliver us from what ails us.
Now, while this sounds pretty straight forward, I can imagine a feeling of doubt by some. This might be an answer, but how do we get people to do it? The truth of the matter is that there will be a lot of people who might not accept the high road, but there are still some who are willing to give it a try. When we dedicate our lives to living in godliness, we can set good examples and avoid the direct consequences of our own sin. When we reach out in evangelism, we teach others what can be done to make life better for themselves and those closest to them. No, we might not be able to save everyone, but we can make a difference to some.
There are a lot of really smart people trying to figure out how to save our nation from itself. Let’s do what we can to help save our neighbors from sin. When we do that, we are doing what we can to make things better than we found them.
Think About It!
