Well, the celebration is over – now it’s time to get back to work.  Independence Day is a special day for our nation.  We coordinate our colors and gather together to watch fireworks.  We pause to wave the flag and honor the men and women who have bravely served our nation.  All of that is wonderful – but, then what?  Unless we make the conscious effort to continue this camaraderie, we’ll end up back in our old habits of fussin’ and cussin’ at each other.  What could happen if we built on that spirit of unity we felt last week?

Celebrations and memorials are great, but let’s not allow them to merely be islands in a sea of conflicts.  When we come together – either as a family, church, community or a nation – for a special day, let’s not allow that inertia to die.  Let’s ride the wave that can get us back on track to restored relationships.  Whether it is a husband and wife celebrating an anniversary or a community honoring something special, let’s do our best to spread the goodwill beyond a date on the calendar.

What are you celebrating this week?  How can it enhance your relationships next week?

Think About It!
