Not long ago I watched the Tony Awards.  Okay – now that I have your attention, let me explain.  First, part of my family wanted to watch a performance featured on the award show, so we watched it up until that aired.  Second, as soon as the performance was done, we turned the channel and watched something else.  For those of you who saw the show – or know what all was included in the show – you might be asking, “So, were you surprised or shocked by what you saw?”.  Interestingly, my answer is “No”.  I didn’t agree with everything I saw, but I saw what I expected to see.  People who make their living on Broadway are typically politically and socially liberal and spend their time imagining a world of fantasy. I kind of knew what to expect.

Now, the reason I bring this up is to ask a different question.  If people watched our lives – or came into our church – would they be surprised by what they saw?  If we call ourselves Christians, are we living that kind of lifestyle?  The Apostle Paul outlined the Christian life by advocating, “Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.” (Philippians 2:14-16).  The Lord’s people have been called to live the Lord’s away.  Are we doing it?

Let’s learn the will and the way of the Lord.  That way, if we do them, there won’t be any surprises – either to the people who watch us or by the Lord who is judging us.

Think About It!
