One of the things I have done differently this year is to use a tablet for my sermon notes rather than printing them out on paper.  I am not a die-hard “tree hugger”, but I do believe that I can do my part to save some trees and landfill space for the next generation.  That sounds pretty noble, doesn’t it?  Well, it’s all good until someone forgets to plug in the electronic device!  As I was preparing to preach last Sunday morning, I realized my device was a bit low on battery.  I might have had enough to get me through the sermon, but I wasn’t sure.  So, as we were preparing for the worship I started charging my tablet, but it wasn’t making enough progress fast enough.  So, then I thought about using another device that had more a of a charge – to do that I had to download the file.  So, what about printing out a paper copy … well that would take time.  So, what about … Folks I have to admit that by the time I got up to preach my brain was running 100 mph and it took me a while to settle in to preaching my lesson.  Now, while I would like to tell you that this is an anomaly, I am not sure that would be completely truthful.  Sometimes my brain spins too fast for its own good.  I am not saying I am quick-witted or think fast on my feet – my problem tends to be that my mind tends to stay in a constant whir.  The problem with that is that it is hard to slow it down so that I can actually produce quality thoughts.

The reason I share this with you is that there may be some others out there who struggle with slowing down our minds.  I am not saying we should stop thinking – but we should slow down, take a deep breath and let the process work.  Whenever I relax a little bit, I am drawn to the passage, “He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’” (Psalm 46:9-11).  I realize this passage is bigger than my little meltdowns, but it does seem to help ground me and refocus me.

Let’s not get overwhelmed – either by problems or by thinking about them.  We’ll get thought it because God’s got this!

Think About It!
