Will everyone be satisfied with the way this election will turn out?  Sometimes I wonder if anyone will be pleased with the way this election will turn out!

This has been a unique election season and I get the impression that it isn’t over yet.  I have been around for a lot of these elections and I just get the sense that this one is different than those I have previously experienced.  Now, I don’t know if the results will be better or worse – in fact, I don’t believe the success of this election will be answered on Tuesday … in the next few days … or even in the next few years.  I believe that it will be the historians that will ultimately decide if November 5, 2024 was a good day or not.

As I think about this historic day, I tend to harken back on our nation’s history – but, in all honesty, it takes me back even further.  As I have thought and prayed about Election 2024, I keep going to back to a passage in the New Testament, “Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.” (I Peter 2:17).  I find this admonition interesting because it is unqualified.  It doesn’t say if the results turn out the way you want, be happy.  It doesn’t say that if your candidate wins, be supportive of them.  It doesn’t say that we should treat those in our political party with kindness.  This statement is designed to provide support for one another no matter what happens.

The political pundits may not point this out, but we have had good and bad leaders before.  We have had divisive elections in the past.  Bad people have won and good people have lost.  But the thing that can keep us on an even keel isn’t what happens as much as it is how we work together to make the best out of whatever happens.  Let’s hope for unity as we work through today – but let’s pray for each other as we labor together in our nation.

Think About It!
