I get so many offers that, someday I am going to miss out on a really good one! I have been told that the Crowned Prince of Kenya would like to share his millions with me. I have gotten emails that tell me I can say good-bye to car repairs simply by paying SMALL monthly payments. I have left free prizes and inexpensive grand vacations unredeemed just because things seemed a little too good to be true. It wouldn’t surprise me if I haven’t already missed out on something that was both legitimate and a great deal just because I am tired of all the hype of the hucksters!

Unfortunately, we face something like this in our religious lives. We live in a society that is constantly offering us something that is better told than true. There are promises of health and wealth if we join a certain church. There is the allure of fun and fulfillment if we seek out another one. It seems like everywhere we turn, someone is trying to entice us with something that will make us happier than we’ve ever been – in fact the noise of modern religion can be deafening. So how can we make sure that we don’t miss out on the true blessings of Christianity? The most reliable way is to take the time to get to know what God has actually promised. When the First Century believers were enticed by confusing versions of godliness, they went back to the Book of God. The people of Berea were lauded with the acknowledgement, “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” (Acts 17:11). Men may promise, but it is God who delivers true rewards.

Let’s keep our eyes open to the great things available to us – but do so with intelligence and insight. When we do, we’ll invest in things that make our earthly and eternal lives fulfilling.

Think About It!
