One of the more interesting aspects of Maryland law is that the Department of Motor Vehicle Administration can issue a “pick up order” on license plates that have been flagged in their system. For example, if a vehicle owner is in arrears in insurance coverage; the division will put out an order that those license plates should be immediately removed from the vehicle; therefore, rendering it undriveable until the issue is resolved. When I originally heard about this, I was a little surprised, then I got to thinking about other instances when an agency or even a business can repossess objects for a violation of an agreement. The most common example of this is the repossession of a car for non-payment of the loan, but there is another example that is more serious than losing our wheels.
When the Lord used the Apostle John to describe a revelation of spiritual things He reminded seven churches in Asia of their need to remain faithful. To one of the churches, the one in Ephesus, He warned, “But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent.” (Revelation 2:4-5). It appears that the church in Ephesus had gotten sidetracked from what they had been called to do (the agreement they made with the Lord) and unless they refocused, the Lord would remove His presence from their church. Oh, they might still look like a church, but they would be missing the one thing that truly made them God’s people.
Are we living up to the commitment we made to the Lord at our conversion? If so, let’s enjoy the blessings of God; however, if not, let’s repent and refocus because if we don’t, the Lord may repossess His Spirit from our lives – and that will leave us with a whole bunch of nothing.

Think About It!
