I get whiny sometimes – like when the water heater goes out and disrupts my routine. We have been without a water heater for about a week now and I found myself pretty distressed. I mean, how can anyone be expected to survive in a beautiful four-bedroom house with blazing fast internet and a full refrigerator without hot water? As you can tell by my sarcasm, I have come to realize over the last couple of days that my “hardship” has not been all that bad. In fact, other than having to take a quick cold shower each morning, I am pretty much able to function reasonably normally. I have come to expect that this temporary inconvenience (the cold shower) is a small price to pay for staying in my house and enjoying my stuff.
As I considered by plight, I was drawn to a passage of Scripture. When the Apostle Paul reflected on the challenges in his life he wrote, “Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (II Corinthians 4:16-18). Folks, I will be the first to admit that I am spoiled, but I must also be cognizant of my need to see things through the lenses of reality. Our joy must not be deterred by having to deal with cold showers, masks, seasonal allergies, a contentious election, economic challenges or even a pandemic. Compared to the riches we have been promised by the Lord, these struggles are momentary and light.
Let’s keep our perspective and remember the promises we have been made. The Lord won’t let us down so let’s not get down on our circumstances

Think About It!
