Would you be willing to die for someone? That may be a rather shocking way to start today’s conversation, but do you love humanity enough to be willing to protect a life by risking yours? There are stories of people who do this all the time – we call them heroes. Some of them do it as a part of their profession, others by instinct. Would you be willing to do it?
Now, while you ponder that, here is the main point of this discussion: would you be willing to live for someone? Often, when we think of Christian love, we think about the extremes; but the truth of the matter is that few of us will face this dilemma; however, most of us come face to face with being willing to help others each and every day of the week. The Apostle John challenged the manifestation of love by building on Jesus’ willingness to die to save mankind, then observing, “We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?” (I John 3:16-17). Again, few of us will be called on to die to save someone’s life, but all of us will be asked to sacrifice something we have to ease someone’s life. Are we willing to do it?
Let’s remember our call to love one another. When we are willing to help others, we are merely doing what we have been called to do.
Think About It!
