The other day I was flipping through the channels on the television and came across the Gray Cup. If you aren’t familiar with this event, it is Canada’s equivalent to our Super Bowl. It is the title came of the Canadian Football League. While I didn’t watch the whole game, I did take in a part of the game and was reminded of the differences between Canadian football and its southern counterpart. Among the differences are the size of the field (the Canadians have a much larger playing surface – including being 110 yards in length), players can be in motion on the snap of the ball and they only get three downs to make a first down. However, despite the differences, the game still came down to the basics – blocking, tackling, passing, running and scoring. The circumstances of how those are carried out may have been a little different, but the essence of the game was familiar.
As I reflected on the game, I got to thinking about life. How often do we look at life – in particular the lives of others – and think how different their circumstances are than ours? Maybe it was in where they were raised or how they communicate or the amount of money in their bank account (if they have one at all). On the surface they might appear different than us (you can also spell that U. S.), but in reality the essence of life is very much the same thing. Their quality of life will be determined by the respect they give and receive. Their eternal future will decided by the love they have for one another and the relationship they have with God.
The next time we look at someone who doesn’t appear to be similar to us, let’s look below the surface and remember our similarities. Who knows, when we do that maybe we will be able to rekindle the international brotherhood of mankind.

Think About It!
