I am sure it wouldn’t surprise anyone who knows me that – from time to time – I allow stuff to get to me. Interestingly, the things that typically get me down aren’t the major issues, it is the little stuff. I feel pretty confident navigating through the legitimate crises, but I spend way too much time “wrapped around the axle” over situations that don’t typically amount to a hill of beans! Thankfully, my wife knows me well enough realize when I am going through this and she will remind me to not let the fleas get me. She reminds me of the old adage that too often our lives aren’t spoiled by legitimate dangers, it’s the annoyances – the fleas – that produce dissatisfaction.
As I think about this, I need to remember that the fleas won’t kill me, but they can make me uncomfortable – or maybe even more importantly – they can cause me to give up and abandon my duty. When I start to allow minor issues to derail me, I need to remember a few things: First, they may be annoying, but they aren’t dangerous. Second, I am responsible for my emotional approach to assessing the fleas. Everyone has them, some just deal with them better than others.
Are we facing fleas in our lives? If so, let’s not let them get us down. They may be annoying, but we can work through them as long as we keep our eyes focused on the significant issues in life.
Think About It!
