Election Day 2020 has the potential to turn out to be different than any of the others in my lifetime. I remember back in the day that elections returns would not be broadcast, nor would projections be made, until the polls were closed on the West Coast. Then, with the advancement of technology, media outlets became more numerous and results came in faster. It seemed like as soon as voting ended, we knew the winner. This year, with all the nuances of this election, I am not sure when we’ll know the final results!
So, what can we do as we wait? How do we avoid being too anxious or adversarial in the interim? As I pondered how to prepare for this Election Day, I came across an interesting passage, “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not get upset because of one who is successful in his way, because of the person who carries out wicked schemes. Cease from anger and abandon wrath; do not get upset; it leads only to evildoing. For evildoers will be eliminated, but those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land.” (Psalm 37:7-9). For years Christians have professed a belief that God is in control – do we still believe it? Can we accept that our Lord, the Sovereign God, will utilize those elected officials to do His will? If so, why worry? Sure, I think it is natural to be interested in this election from a historical perspective or to even see how our positions match up with the rest of the country; but if we truly trust God we should be able to go to bed and sleep peacefully even if we don’t know the results (or maybe as importantly – if we do know the results and they aren’t what we hoped they would be).
To use a colloquial expression, now is the time to put up or shut up. Do we believe in the Absolute Power of God? If so, let’s trust that He will be victorious no matter who wins the popular (or even electoral vote)!

Think About It!
