Nineteen years ago, there was trouble right there in River City! (Now, unless you have seen the musical, “The Music Man” that statement might not mean much to you, but it is catchy way to get started.) We were living in Pierre, South Dakota and I was working as the School Resource Officer at the High School for the local police department. I was dreading the week because we were preparing for a huge influx of people for statewide celebration and – oh, by the way – it was homecoming week as well. As the week began, my plate was full and I was overwhelmed by what I was anticipating. Then, in the blink of an eye on September 11, 2001, everything changed. In the time it took for the planes to fall from the sky, what I thought were real concerns were minor details on a much larger crisis. What I was stressing about earlier in the week became an afterthought at 7:45 a.m. Central Time.

As I think back on that week that change history, I am reminded of something in our future. There will be a moment that will overshadow all other events in history. At some point, “… the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which )the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.” (II Peter 3:10). That moment in time will put everything in perspective. That event will make us forget any viruses or social unrest. It will be one of the defining moments in the history of mankind.
I don’t know that any of us could have anticipated what happened on 9/11, but we had all better be ready for the return of Jesus. Now we all know about it, so we had better be prepared for it. Are you ready?

Think About It!
