The other day Jeane and I were talking
about some of the challenges people were facing today and she made a statement
that really struck me. In describing the
need to be busy she said, “Activity begets action” ... in other words, before
we can make a difference, we have to do something. We can’t just wish something would happen, we
can’t just plan on doing something about something; if we are going to make a
difference it begins by doing something.
Only when we begin being active, will any action take place.
I don’t know about you, but I have
found it easy to fall into the rut of complacency – not just in my daily
exercise routine, but in every aspect of my life. Being encouraged to stay home can lead us
into believing that we are doing the world a favor by doing nothing. It is easy to confuse the terms “physical
distancing” with “social distancing” and believe that we have an excuse to just
float along. Not only does this create
an immediate problem of inactivity, the longer it goes on the less likely we
are to get started when the world returns to normal. Our arms and legs might not be the only thing
that atrophies during this pandemic, our desire to get out and make a
difference is in danger of being lost as well.
Let’s stay safe, but let’s find ways to
continue to make a positive difference each and every day. Remember the more we do, the more we will
accomplish. Yes, it may sound simplistic,
but it is also a reminder of our need to be active – not just physically, but
as community members and Christians as well.

About It!
