Have you ever thought about
the wisdom and timing of God? I got to
thinking about it the other day when I was reading about the animal sacrifices
of the Old Testament and got to wondering how those would have gone over in
modern day. With critters bordering on
being revered, pets having their own health plans and animals being protected
by human-sounding laws, the concept of animal sacrifices would just not go over
today in today’s society – no matter what God says.
While the modern perspective
on animal rights might make animal sacrifices unappealing, fortunately the
point is moot because they are no longer necessary. Yes, there was a time when forgiveness was
tied to sacrifices, but thanks to the wisdom and compassion of God (coupled
with the love of Jesus) there has been one sacrifice that is satisfactory for
all times. After stating the ultimate
failure of animal sacrifices, “For it is impossible
for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.”, one writer during
the early Christian era proclaimed, “By this will we have been sanctified
through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
(Hebrews 10:4, 10). I guess I am glad we
don’t have to go out and sacrifice something to appease God’s anger; but more
than that, I am glad that the perfect sacrifice has been made once and for all.
Think About It!
