There are certain aspects of Sunday’s church shooting in White Settlement, Texas that hit a bit closer to home than some of the others.  I have been watching information coming from the Metroplex over the past couple of days and I believe there are some lessons that can be learned.  Sure, there are some “security lessons” that can be taken away from the response, but I believe there is something even more important message – we cannot lose hope!  This incident is a painful reminder of one of the most fundamental truths in the world – satan is alive and well and will stop at NOTHING to promote his will and defeat his adversary.  We can argue all we want to about certain political and social issues, but at the heart of things like this is the presence of satan.  He will use tools such as hatred and fear to strike a blow against God’s people, but we cannot allow him to win.  Tragedies like this one tend to sap us of our strength, but we must maintain our focus on the ultimate victory of God’s church, both individually and as a body of believers.
Unfortunately, there are no longer guaranteed “safe places” in our communities and, just like schools, churches have become places where violence can and does occur.  Yet, as we look at this trend, I hope and pray that the Lord’s church doesn’t fall “victim” to violence.  Yes, satan is real and really powerful, but he is no match for the Supreme God.  He (and His people) will win! In the midst of their own national tragedy, the prophet Isaiah encouraged his contemporaries with these words, ”He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power.  Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” (Isaiah 40:29-31).
Let’s keep marching on!  Our times may be uncertain, but God’s victory is sure!
          Think About It!
