What would happen if God just left us alone?  I know there is a lot of debate about just how active God is in our lives and our world, but let’s just pretend for a minute that God left us up to our own devices, what then?  Well, interestingly enough, the Bible addressed just this scenario.  The Apostle Paul writes of a life without Godly involvement in this way, “And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.” (Romans 1:28-32).  That doesn’t sound like much good would come to a life without God, does it?
My question is simply this – in the interest of human wisdom, has our society distanced itself so far away from God that we are dealing with the consequences of our choices?  Have we relied so much on humanism that we have created a lifestyle of pervasive evil?
When our small children tell us, “I can do it myself!” most of us don’t believe they can be left alone to make good, mature decisions.  That same challenge faces us in our spiritual lives.  Without God and godly guidance, we are destined for a train wreck.  I guess we can’t make the world follow God, but we can prevent our own demise by not following their trail.
