When we think about the diversity of spiritual ministries
we often conjure up a thought written by the Apostle Paul who told the early
Christians in Ephesus, “And He gave some as apostles,
and some as prophets,
and some as evangelists,
and some as pastors
and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to
the building up of the body of Christ ...” (Ephesians 4:11-12). While there is no debating that individuals
who fit these descriptions are ministers of God, have we ever thought that this
might not be an exhaustive list? In
fact, this might just be the beginning of job descriptions that can be used to
promote the cause of Christ. What about
nurses – can Christian nurses help heal people’s bodies and souls at the same
time? How about police officers – can
they enforce the laws that keep us safe as well as lay the foundation for
justice and mercy in their walk with God?
Have you ever thought about professors – not only do they prepare our
young people to be successful in the classrooms, they also teach them
life-skills that can help them make the most of their day-to-day journey.
These are just a few
examples of professions that can help people become all they can be. In fact, we would be hard-pressed to come up
with a profession that cannot be used to the glory of God. Let’s remember that if God gives us the
opportunity to reach people, He will also give us the skills we need to help
others become better.
What profession are we
in? How can we use it to reach out to
people who need to come to know Christ?
Think About It!
