What is the right thing to
do? Are we doing it?
The reason I bring up these
questions is that I have found it awful easy to excuse my inaction. Oh, I am very familiar with “right things”,
but I am also very comfortable explaining away why I don’t do them. Sure, when the right thing is something I
want to do, it is every easy to do it.
Yet, when it is something I don’t really want to do I can find a myriad
of excuses for why I can’t (or even why I shouldn’t do it). I am very willing to go out of my way to help
people I want to help or do things I enjoy doing (even if they inconvenience
me), but the real test of godliness is doing the right things that I don’t want
to do for people I don’t want to help.
One of the most difficult
spiritual philosophies for me to live up to is the concept of knowing the right
thing to do and do it (James 4:17).
However, I also realize that not only is doing the right thing something
God expects from me, it is also something that builds spiritual muscle in my
life. By doing things I don’t what to
do, I become a better and more well-rounding disciple of Christ and leader of
Christians.
Is there something we know
we should be doing? Let’s get on it and
do it – today!
Think
About It!
