What is the answer
to today’s challenges? It seems like we
are surrounded by constant conflicts, what can we do to make things
better? Is there any hope?
The other day I was
reading from the New Testament when I came across this suggestion, “First of all, then, I urge
that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be
made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a
tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” (I Timothy 2:1-2). The first thing that struck me was the lack
of negative language – nowhere in here does it way that we should be
criticizing other folks or pointing out each other’s faults. The second thing has to do with the focus of
our entreaties. Typically when we read
this passage we hone in on the section that teaches us to pray for our leaders,
but did you notice that it says that these prayers, etc. should “be made on
behalf of all men”? Yes, rulers and
leaders need our support, but they aren’t the only ones. When we pray for our president, we should
also be praying for the homeless man sleeping outside our apartment
complex. When we seek God’s guidance we
need to remember members of Congress as well as young people making the first
major decisions of their lives. As we
pray for our bosses and the business leaders of our nation, would should also be
remembering our co-workers and those we supervise.
When we live our lives with dignity
and respect we will make this world a better place for everyone. Not only will God answer our prayers for
guidance to our leaders, He will also put us in positions to help those who
need it in all levels of society.
Think About It!
