I have been a big fan of Bobby Bowden for a lot of years.  Not only was he a good football coach, he also appears to be a good man.  Coach Bowden made a name for himself in major college football programs like West Virginia and Florida State and has been a positive influence on a lot of people through the years.  Interestingly, his impact wasn’t just on those he coached, he also touched those who had the chance to listen to him as well (and that was a lot of us because he had a lot to say and was very “quotable”).
There isn’t enough room for me to list all the classic Bobbyisms, but I would like to share a couple of them.  The first one is, “Don’t go to the grave with life unused.”.  We have all been given time and talent and it would be a shame to waste either one of them.  Let’s be committed to reaching our potential and maximizing our time.  The second quote is, “Courage is doing something you need to do that might get you hurt.”.  While many people might think this is a lesson for the gridiron, the truth is that is applies to every aspect of life.  We mustn’t restrict our lives in fear of getting hurt, we must have the courage to live our lives despite the fact that we might get hurt.  No, I am not talking about carelessness, what I am talking about is commitment.  Anything truly worth doing is worth accepting the risks that go along with it.  Centuries before Coach Bowden inspired his teams, the Apostle John captured this thought as he challenged Christians, “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” (Revelation 2:10).
Are we willing to live life on purpose?  Are we committed to giving our all for our God?
Think About It!
